The UNESCO International Institute for STEM Education was officially opened in Shanghai on September 21. China's Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng signed the Host Country Agreement and the Operational Agreement for the institute with the UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, who said the institute will become part of UNESCO's key global network of institutions. Why It Matters: The Inaugural China–Central Asia Education Ministers’ Meeting marked a new, institutionalized phase in educational cooperation between China and Central Asian countries. The meeting strengthened the top-level design of regional education collaboration and, through strategic alignment and resource integration, established a regional model for educational cooperation in the Belt and Road countries. It carries significant regional importance as well as value for people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
10. Institute of Global Teacher Development Established in Beijing

The Institute of Global Teacher Development, initiated by China's Ministry of Education, was officially established in Beijing on March 27. About 200 representatives, including teachers and students from more than 50 countries, took part in the first international teacher training program.
The institute, consisting of 21 universities and institutions under the leadership of the ministry, is based at Beijing Normal University. It aims to overcome the fragmented nature of previous international teacher exchange programs by integrating resources from various universities, streamlining teacher training initiatives and fostering a structured and large, robust international exchange system.
The institute will develop personalized teacher exchange programs targeting key regions and countries. It will also encourage top-tier universities to establish overseas teacher training collaboration centers, supporting local educational resource development and teaching reform.

Why It Matters: The Institute of Global Teacher Development has established the first national-level, institutionalized platform for international teacher exchange, effectively overcoming the fragmentation and dispersion that previously characterized international cooperation programs. Through large-scale and systematic international teacher training, as well as the establishment of overseas training bases, the academy promotes global teacher professional development and the integration of educational philosophies in a comprehensive and sustained manner, contributing Chinese wisdom and strength to the building of a high-quality global education community.
